UK Twin Sisters Born Minutes Apart Found to Have Different Fathers After DNA Test (X)
New Delhi: Sometimes nature plays such tricks that it becomes difficult to believe. Sisters living in Nottingham, UK, who had been considering themselves twins for the last 49 years, were shocked after a DNA test. The test revealed that that they are twins, but have different fathers.
For nearly 50 years, twin sisters, who were born minutes apart in Nottingham in 1976, Michelle and Lavinia Osbourne shared every joy and sorrow. After the death of their mother, when the twin sisters got their DNA tested, it turned out that both of them are actually 'half-sisters' and their biological fathers are different.
Both sisters always had doubts about their father. Michelle always felt that her face did not match her father James's face at all. To clear up this doubt, they decided to take a DNA test.
Michelle ordered a DNA kit at her home and took the test. The report revealed that James was not her father. After this, Lavinia also took the test, and her report also revealed a big secret. It was found that both of them had two different fathers.
This miracle and rare case is called 'Heteropaternal Superfecundation' in scientific terms. This condition occurs when two eggs are released from a woman's body during the same menstrual cycle and both of those eggs are fertilized by the sperm of two different men within a very short period of time.
As a result, twins are born from different fathers. Considering the world medical history, less than 20 such cases have been recorded so far. Also, considering the UK, this is the first case to be legally and scientifically recorded.
Michelle's mother had passed away on the same day she received her DNA test results. This buried many secrets forever. But for the two sisters, this news is nothing short of a movie story.
