AIADMK in Turmoil: 30 MLAs Push for Alliance with Vijay’s TVK; Pressure Mounts on C.V. Shanmugam (X)

Chennai: After the high-stakes Tamil Nadu Assembly election 2026 results on Monday, dramatic political scenes are unfolding in the state. No party has secured the major figure to form the government, but actor-turned-politician Vijay's party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has emerged as the single largest party in the elections, winning 108 seats. According to reports, there is a faction within the AIADMK that is wish to support Vijay.

What is the buzz in Tamil Nadu?

Now a majority of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) MLAs are expressing their wish to support the TVK in forming the government in the state.

This development comes after the Congress  has also wished to extend support the TVK and walk out of the DMK alliance.

Who in the AIADMK proposed the idea?

Senior AIADMK leader C. V. Shanmugam, who won from  Villupuram's Mailam constituency, proposed the idea of supporting TVK. Over 30 MLAs of the party reportedly supported it. The MLAs are said to have asked party general secretary Edappadi Palaniswami to take a decision on this.

Leema Rose, who won on the AIADMK ticket, had said that discussions are underway between the two parties.

As Vijay’s TVK is short of 10 seats to form the government, there is always a chance for politicking and volatility even if he scrapes past the required mark of 118 with the slender support of Congress and other small parties with insignificant numbers.
