Suvendu Adhikari Takes Oath As West Bengal CM, First From BJP To Hold The Post (X)
Kolkata: Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday took the oath of office as the Chief Minister of West Bengal, with this he has become the first Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader to hold the Chief Minister post of the state succeeding Mamata Banerjee, who had occupied the chair for the last 15 years since 2011.

Suvendu Adhikari took oath in Bengali as West Bengal Chief Minister. The BJP secured 207 seats in the 294-member Assembly, ending the Trinamool Congress' 15-year rule in the state.

After a historic performance in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, the swearing-in ceremony of the new Chief Minister of the state, Suvendu Adhikari, took place on Saturday at Kolkata's Brigade Parade Ground, marking the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore.
New West Bengal Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari, who was born on December 15, 1970, to Sisir Adhikari and Gayatri Adhikari in Karkuli, began his political career with the Congress party, then joined the Trinamool Congress in 1998, along with Mamata Banerjee. However, internal differences within the TMC eventually led to Suvendu's exit and entry into the BJP. The new West Bengal Chief Minsiter is unmarried and belongs to the Utkal Brahmin community.
