Chaturmas 2026 Dates: When Will The Auspicious Month Begin? Know Complete Puja Vidhi (AI)
New Delhi: Chaturmas in Sanatan dharma is one of the most sacred periods. It is believed that Lord Vishnu resides in the Patala lok with King Bali for the next 119 days, due to which all the auspicious activities are being halted by devotees. It is said that any kind of sin can lead to negative consequences.
This is the period where devotion, spiritual practices, and self-control are mainly focused on by devotees.
According to the Hindu calendar, Chaturmas will start on Saturday, June 25, this year. The starting day of Chaturmas falls on the Ekadashi of Ashadha Shukla Paksha, also known as Devshayani Ekadashi. The period of chaturmas will end on Friday, November 20, on the day of Devuthani Ekadashi of Kartik Shukla Paksha.
This holy period lasts for 4 months, i.e., 119 days, which includes the lunar months of Shravan, Bhadrapada, Ashwin, and Kartik.
According to religious scriptures, Lord Vishnu enters the state of Yoga Nidra on the day of Devshayani Ekadashi. After four months, Lord Vishnu wakes up on the day of Devuthani Ekadashi and resumes his duty of governing nature.
This period is considered most auspicious for self- awareness and spiritual progress. Spending more time on chanting and devotion performed during these days will return with many rewards. Marriage, sacred ceremony, or the beginning of any projects are not performed during Chaturmas as it is considered inappropriate.
Chaturmas falls during the rainy season, so saints and sages prefer not to travel; instead, they meditate in a particular place, also known as Varshavas or Chaturmas.
One of the most profound periods dedicated to spiritual rejuvenation and mental discipline. Chaturmas is not only considered a religious occasion but also helps to improve balance in life.
