Hanuman Jayanti is observed on the day of the full moon in Chaitra month. This day marks the birth of Hanuman, sometimes referred to as the Vanara God and Hanuman Jayanti is observed to honor him.

Hanuman Jayanti is observed by devotees at various times of the year depending on the calendar type and local customs. In the states of North India, the most prominent Hanuman Jayanti falls during Chaitra Purnima. This time Hanuman Jayanti will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 23.

Purnima Tithi Begins - 03:25 AM on Apr 23, 2024
Purnima Tithi Ends - 05:18 AM on Apr 24, 2024

Different regions follow different procedures and cultures. In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Hanuman Jayanthi is observed for 41 days. The celebration begins on Chaitra Purnima and finishes on the tenth day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Vaishakha. Deeksha, a 41-day fast, starts on Chaitra Purnima and ends on Hanuman Jayanti Day for devotees in Andhra Pradesh.

The day is commonly known as Hanumath Jayanthi in Tamil Nadu, is celebrated on Margashirsha Amavasya. Tamil Hanuman Jayanti occurs in January or December on the Gregorian calendar.

In Karnataka, Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated on Shukla Paksha Trayodashi in the month of Margashirsha. The public refers to this day as Hanuman Vratam.

It is believed that Hanuman was born at Sunrise. According to the rituals and beliefs, temples start spiritual discourses at dawn before Sunrise and stop after Sunrise.

Hanuman is also known as Anjaneye, an ardent devotee of Lord Rama and Sita.

Celebrating Different Aspects

One celebration focuses on Hanuman's birth (Hanuman Janma), while the other marks a significant achievement (Hanuman Vijayam). There's a legend associated with the latter, where Hanuman, as a child, mistook the Sun for a giant fruit and flew towards it. This act is seen as a victory over limitations.

Hanuman Jayanti observed in Chaitra maas is considered to be his birthday. It involves devotional prayers, fasting, and special decorations in temples.

Kartik Chaturdashi (or Margashirsha Amavasya in some regions)

This celebration commemorates Hanuman's victory or a significant event in his life. Observances may vary depending on the specific tradition.

It's important to note that these are the most common reasons. There could be regional variations and interpretations behind the two Hanuman Jayanti celebrations.
