Auto News: On August 26, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially launched the first Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara as it came off the production line. The event also marked the opening of Maruti Suzuki’s first plant for producing hybrid battery electrodes. The latest update on the e-Vitara suggests that the SUV is moving closer to its planned launch, which is expected to happen in December.

Exports Begin from India

In August, Maruti Suzuki started exporting the e-Vitara, Suzuki’s first Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV). Around 2,900 units were shipped from Pipavav Port in Gujarat to 12 European countries including the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, France, Denmark, Switzerland, Netherlands, Sweden, Hungary, Iceland, Austria, and Belgium. The e-Vitara is made only at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat factory. The start of exports is an important step in Suzuki’s plan to make India the global hub for e-Vitara production.

Design and Platform Details

The e-Vitara was first launched globally in Europe late last year and was later showcased in India at the Bharat Mobility Show 2025. It is built on the 40PL dedicated EV platform, which was developed with Toyota. Toyota will also make its own version of this SUV, named the Urban Cruiser EV.

Strong Safety and Battery Options

The Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara has proven its safety with a 4-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash tests. It scored 77 percent for Adult Occupant protection and 85 percent for Child Occupant Safety. The electric SUV will come with two battery options  49kWh and 61kWh. The larger battery will feature a dual-motor AWD (AllGrip-e) system. More information about the variants, features, and the official launch date in India will be shared soon.
