Ratan Tata (social media)
Ratan Tata, who made 'Tata' a global brand, may be gone from us today, but many companies and products born from his visionary thinking are a part of people's lives. Be it making a global company like TCS, converting Tata Motors from a truck manufacturing company to a passenger vehicle company or making a dream car like Tata Nano keeping in mind the needs of the common man. However, despite all this, one dream of Ratan Tata is still unfulfilled.
Ratan Tata loved his dream car Tata Nano so much that he wanted to develop it as the car of the future. Even in the last days of his life, Ratan Tata used to travel in this car often, whereas if he wanted, he could have easily traveled in a car of Jaguar Land Rover (a company of Tata Group). Even in his last days, he was working on a project to convert it into a car of the future.
For Ratan Tata, Nano was a great commuter vehicle, so he was working on converting this car into an electric car for the future world. He was confident that in the coming years the world would start running on electric vehicles. That is why he named this project Neo EV.Ratan Tata started the project of converting Tata Nano into an electric vehicle around 2015. He was in favour of launching it in two variants. One with city tour range i.e. with less battery pack, the other long route variant, i.e. an electric car that can travel a little longer distance. For this, Ratan Tata was working with a startup company in Coimbatore. An incident related to this is also connected to Bhavish Aggarwal of Ola Electric.
On the demise of Ratan Tata, Ola Electric's founder Bhavish Aggarwal shared an anecdote. He said that in 2015 Ratan Tata met him and invested in his company. He was very curious about electric vehicles. Once in 2017, Ratan Tata called him and invited him to Mumbai. Later he took him to Coimbatore in his plane. Bhavish Aggarwal told that Ratan Tata only told him to come to Mumbai, from where he wanted to take him to a new place. His personal project of converting Tata Nano into an electric vehicle was underway in Coimbatore. Bhavish Aggarwal says that in fact 'Ola Electric' was started on that day.
