On May 20, 2025, Aamir Hamza—a co-founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and longtime associate of Hafiz Saeed—was critically injured at his residence in Lahore. While early social media posts pointed to an armed attack by unidentified assailants, Pakistani authorities dismissed the claims, calling it a “non-violent accident.” With no CCTV footage or eyewitness testimony publicly available, the circumstances remain suspiciously unclear. Hamza is currently under intense ISI surveillance in a Lahore hospital, fuelling speculation about either an internal betrayal or a targeted operation.
Aamir Hamza is more than just another militant; he is a founding ideologue of LeT and one of its 17 original members. For decades, he has shaped the group’s narrative, led its propaganda wing, and worked closely with Hafiz Saeed on both operational and ideological fronts. The U.S. Treasury has long identified him as a crucial player in LeT’s global outreach, including the establishment of charity fronts and educational institutes used for recruitment. His historical involvement in the 1980s Afghan jihad against the Soviets added to his credentials within terror circles.
The incident occurred just days after India launched “Operation Sindoor” targeting LeT and its proxy outfits like The Resistance Front (TRF) following the Pahalgam terror attack. Coinciding with India’s push to expose Pakistan-backed terror modules at the UN, Hamza’s collapse has raised alarm bells. Security around Saeed has also been dramatically increased, with drones and facial recognition systems deployed around his Lahore compound, hinting at paranoia within the terror leadership.
