New Delhi: Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles has announced that it has received more than 70,000 confirmed reservations on the very first day of bookings for the new Sierra SUV, which was launched in the Indian market in November.
For many buyers, the Sierra name brings back memories of the 1990s. It was one of India's earliest lifestyle SUVs, and Tata has clearly tapped into that emotional connect. This time, though, the Sierra arrives with a modern look, updated technology and a more premium feel.
Showroom displays and online previews helped build curiosity well before bookings opened. By the time the window went live, interest had already peaked.
The numbers suggest it's more than just sentiment. Industry estimates say close to 1.35 lakh people showed interest in the Sierra, either through enquiries or dealer visits. That level of response usually reflects serious buying intent.
Early reactions point to the Sierra’s design as a major draw. It looks bold, upright and confident, without appearing flashy. Inside, buyers are expecting a spacious cabin, modern features and the comfort needed for daily city use as well as highway drives.
Tata’s track record on safety and solid build quality has also helped reassure customers, especially families looking to upgrade.
Deliveries for the new Tata Sierra are scheduled to begin from January 15, 2026, as confirmed by Tata Motors earlier
Waiting periods are likely to vary depending on location and variant choice.
Customers who booked early are hopeful of priority deliveries once dispatches begin.
The Sierra’s opening-day response strengthens Tata’s position in the crowded SUV space. It also shows that Indian buyers still value legacy brands, as long as they are updated sensibly.
The company on Tuesday celebrated India's win at the ICC Women's World Cup 2025 by gifting the first units of the Tata Sierra to members of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team.
