Massive Uproar at Patliputra Station: Candidates Block Tracks, IG and Several Officers Injured (Screengrab)
Patna: Thousands of candidates going to appear for the recruitment examination of Bihar Police Prohibition Department protested fiercely at Patliputra railway station on Sunday. Angered by the shortage of trains and late arrival of many trains, students blocked the railway track. The situation became so bad that the police had to open fire in the air to control the crowd. During this time many policemen were injured in stone pelting.
The recruitment examination of the Prohibition Department was to be conducted in two shifts. A large number of candidates started reaching the station since night itself to appear in the examination. But due to lack of adequate train arrangements and many trains running late, the fear of missing the examination started increasing among the students. Due to this, the candidates got angry.
The situation became more tense when the exam special train from Patliputra to Katihar reached the station. There was chaos while boarding the train. After this, a large number of students sat on the tracks in front of the train and started raising slogans against the railway administration.
Angry candidates disrupted the operation of trains by sitting on the railway track. Due to the protest, rail services at the station were affected and passengers also faced problems. Railway officials tried to pacify the students, but the situation continued to worsen.
During the uproar, some unruly elements vandalised the exam special train. Along with this, stones were also pelted at the police and railway administration. This sudden incident created an atmosphere of chaos in the station premises.
The situation started going out of control after stone pelting and vandalism. Police fired three rounds in the air to control the crowd and bring the situation back to normal. After this, additional police force was called to the spot and security arrangements were tightened.
Many policemen, including IG Jitendra Rana and Rupaspur police station in-charge were injured during stone pelting. However, according to officials, all the injured were immediately provided first aid and their condition was said to be out of danger.
As soon as information about the incident was received, IG, SP, Danapur SDM and police from many police stations reached the spot. The police and railway administration tried to pacify the candidates by talking to them. At the same time, Railways also started operating additional special trains to get the students to the examination centre on time.
After the intervention of the administration, the situation gradually returned to normal. The deployment of security forces has been increased at the station and the railway administration is making special arrangements to take the candidates going for the examination to their destination.
