New Delhi: Crude oil prices have increased again in the international market this week. Brent crude has reached above 93 dollars per barrel. It has seen an increase of more than 5% in a week. There is a possibility of new economic sanctions being imposed on Iran by America, due to which the concern about global supply has increased and this has directly affected the price of crude oil. However, despite crude oil becoming expensive, there is no change in the prices of petrol and diesel in India today on August 21. At present, this is a matter of relief for the common people.
This week, Brent crude is trading above 93 dollars per barrel. Prices have increased due to tension between America and Iran and fear of supply stoppage from the Strait of Hormuz. American crude oil WTI has softened a bit today after rising for five consecutive days but still remains at a strong level. Experts say that if new sanctions are imposed on Iran, crude oil may go up to $95.
Today, on 21st August, the rate of petrol in the capital Delhi is Rs 102.12 per litre. Whereas diesel is being sold at Rs 95.20 per litre. The prices have remained stable in Delhi since the beginning of August. Despite the boom in the international market, oil companies have not made any increase yet.
Petrol in Mumbai is Rs 111.18 per litre, and diesel is Rs 97.83 per litre. In Kolkata, petrol is priced at Rs 113.51 and diesel at Rs 99.82 per litre. The price of petrol in both the metros is higher than in Delhi because here the tax and transport expenses of the state government are higher.
Today's rates in the cities of South India are - Petrol in Chennai is Rs 108.01 and diesel is Rs 99.55 per litre. Petrol in Hyderabad is Rs 115.73 and diesel is Rs 103.82 per litre. Hyderabad has one of the most expensive petrol prices in the country.
In Bengaluru, petrol is being sold at Rs 110.89 and diesel at Rs 98.80 per litre.
Many people think that petrol will become expensive as soon as crude oil becomes expensive, but it is not so. The rate of petrol and diesel in India is not determined only by crude oil. Five big things are included in it - excise duty of the central government, VAT of the state government, cost of refining, cost of transport and value of rupee against the dollar. Seeing all this, the government oil companies review the rates every morning at 6 am.
For this reason, even when crude oil becomes expensive, the prices do not increase in India and even when it becomes cheaper, they do not decrease immediately. At present, oil companies have kept the prices stable, which has brought some relief to the common people.
