After a notable increase in the issues with the quality of spices manufactured by Mahashian Di Hatti (MDH) Pvt Ltd and Everest, a surge has been reported in the refusal of the shipment export to the United States because of salmonella infection. According to a media agency, 31% of MDHs spice shipments were denied by US customs officials during the last six months, up from 15% the year before.It is worth noting that this surge has been noticed after Hong Kong and Singapore suspended the sales of certain food spices of MDH and Everest over alleged pesticide Salmonella detection in the mixes.Reports also claim that the spice mixes are not under the scanner of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Notably, both companies are now under scrutiny by Indian regulators over quality standards following Hong Kong and Singapore escalated the same. Meanwhile, the Indian regulator has stated that it has sought data from MDH and Everest from relevant authorities in Hong Kong and Singapore and working on finding the root cause of the issue.What is SalmonellaSalmonella is a common bacterial infection that affects the intestine.
