BPSC TRE-4 Recruitment: Students Begin Hunger Strike As Bihar Teacher Vacancy Notification Faces Delay (X)

Patna: The student agitation against delay in recruitment now has spread to Bihar where on Tuesday teacher recruitment aspirants started an indefinite hunger strike in Patna demanding the release of advertisement for the fourth phase of the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE-4) at the earliest.

Where is the protest happening?

The protest at the Gardanibagh protest site follows student protests in Delhi and Ranchi over recruitment delays, changes in the system of holding exams and other issues related to education. The main focus in Bihar is on the much-anticipated recruitment notification of TRE 4 and the way the examination is going to be conducted.

What are the demands?

The protesting candidates have raised the main demand to release the TRE-4 recruitment advertisement. Students have requested the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) to declare the notification as soon as possible.

The students say repeated assurances have not resulted in the recruitment advertisement. The issue is now more complicated because the state government had previously said that the recruitment would continue in July.

If the demands are not met within the next five days, they will march towards and gherao the Bihar Assembly, their student leaders said.

The hunger strike will go on regardless of the Assembly protest, the students have said.

When will the advertisement release?

Sources suggest BPSC could be releasing the advertisement for TRE-4 exam this evening. The Bihar government is not keen on holding a big protest like Delhi and Jharkhand, it is believed. So, it is being reportedly prepared to publish the advertisement on the main demand of the students today.

What did the government say?

The government in July had informed BPSC that it would send the recruitment order to them.

On July 29, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced that a request has been made by the Education Department for 32,388 teacher posts under TRE-4. The proposed recruitment is at primary, middle, secondary and higher secondary level.

But the students are now demanding the next step which is to publish a formal advertisement for recruitment
