Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra issued a sharp rebuke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent remarks on dynastic politics, asserting that her father, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, inherited martyrdom rather than wealth. Speaking at a rally in Morena, Madhya Pradesh, she challenged PM Modi's understanding of the sacrifices made by her family.

Sentiment beyond PM Modi's comprehension

In response to PM Modi's statement about Rajiv Gandhi abolishing inheritance tax to safeguard his inherited wealth, Priyanka Gandhi emphasized that her father did not amass riches through inheritance but instead inherited the legacy of martyrdom from his mother. She underscored that this sentiment is beyond PM Modi's comprehension.

Reflecting on the tragic loss of her father, Priyanka Gandhi shared a deeply personal anecdote, recalling the emotional turmoil she experienced at the tender age of 19 when she brought home his mangled remains. She expressed her disillusionment with the country's failure to protect her father, emphasizing the profound significance of martyrdom.

"At the age of 19, when I brought home the mangled remains of my father, I was upset with this country. I thought, 'I had sent my father. It was your job to ensure his safety. I placed him in your care, but you returned me his remains wrapped in the national flag'. I had misgivings. I know what is the meaning of martyrdom. Today I am 52 and this is the first time I'm talking about it in public," she said.

Priyanka Gandhi cites her family's legacy

The Congress leader's impassioned response comes amidst escalating political rhetoric, with PM Modi's comments reigniting debates on dynastic politics and the legacies of political leaders. Priyanka Gandhi's strong remarks serve to highlight the enduring legacy of sacrifice and service associated with her family's name.
