The 70-year-old music director suffered a heart attack at his residence in Chennai and his funeral will be held on February 4 in Alapakkam, according to reports.

Mumbai: Veteran music director SP Venkatesh, who predominantly worked in Malayalam cinema, passed away at the age of 70 on Tuesday at his residence in Chennai.

What is the cause of dead?

According to reports, Venkatesh's funeral will be held on February 4 in Chennai's Alapakkam.

As per media reports, the 70-year-old music director suffered a heart attack at his residence in Chennai.

Who was SP Venkatesh?

SP Venkatesh, who was born in the family with musical background, started his career in cinema in 1981 by making a debut as an independent music director with the Telugu film 'Prema Yuddham. Long before that in 1971, he use to play guitar in films with music director Vijay Bhaskar. 

Later in 1975, he stepped into the world of Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam films as a versatile music director.

During this phase, Venkatesh, whose father was a famous mandolin player, worked with many big names like Dennis Joseph, Thampi Kannanthanam, and Joshiy. 

His songs which were a peace for the Malayalam audience, featured in various films including Rajavinte Makan, Kilukkam, Johnnie Walker, Dhruvam, Valsalyam, Kabooliwala, Minnaram, Mannar Mathai Speaking, and Spadikam. 

What were his contribution?

Till date, the music director has composed more than 150 Malayalam movies and 500 songs in various languages. 

Some of the famous songs like 'Kunjikkiliye Koodevide', 'Kilukil Pambaram', and 'Meenavenal' are still loved by the music lovers. 

In 1993, Venkatesh has won the Kerala State Film Award for the Best Music Director for 'Paithrukam' and 'Janam'.

He also won the Filmfare Award for 'Paithrukam'.
