Arab nations, already furious over Israel’s military actions, are expected to react strongly. Netanyahu’s refusal to recognize Palestine adds fuel to the fire. Analysts believe this bold stance could bring diplomatic isolation for Israel and worsen hostilities with neighboring countries.
Earlier this week, Israeli forces carried out an airstrike in Doha, the capital of Qatar. The attack targeted a Hamas leaders’ compound, killing five members of the group and one Qatari security officer. The strike has drawn wide criticism across the Middle East.
Among the dead were Hammam al-Hayya, son of senior Hamas negotiator Khalil al-Hayya, along with Jihad Labad, director of the negotiation office, bodyguard Ahmed Mamlouk, and militants Abdullah Abdelwahad and Mumen Hassoun. The death of these leaders has intensified anger against Israel.
Hamas strongly condemned the strike, calling it the “murder of the peace process.” The group accused the United States of collusion, suggesting Washington allowed Israel to act with impunity. This statement has escalated political tensions in an already unstable region.
The airstrike shocked Arab leaders since Qatar hosts the largest American military base in the Middle East. As a key US ally, Qatar was considered relatively safe. The strike has therefore created discomfort for Washington and raised questions about Israel’s strategy.
The White House clarified that President Donald Trump did not approve Israel’s action beforehand. Officials said he was not informed prior to the strike. After learning about it, Trump ordered his envoy to immediately inform Qatari authorities. Still, the damage has already stirred Arab anger.
