World News: A fire that erupted at Plaza Latina in Northwest Dallas on Friday morning killed 579 animals, mostly small birds. Firefighters could be seen fighting to subdue the flames. The structure of the shopping center has suffered heavy damage as a result of the inferno yet to be investigated.

Deadly Blaze Destroys Plaza Latina Pet Shop

A fire broke out in the Plaza Latina shopping center in Northwest Dallas on Friday morning. The blaze burned for almost two hours before firefighters could douse it. Despite the efforts of 45 firefighters, it ended in tragic death for 579 animals, including small birds that died of smoke inhalation. Chickens, hamsters, two dogs and two cats lost their lives.

Heroic rescue efforts fall short

Dallas Fire-Rescue personnel searched the entire building and were also trying to rescue animals when all this came to nothing due to the heavily smoky odor in the pet shop. Further elaborating on the tale, Jason Evans, a spokesman for Dallas Fire-Rescue, said the animals were not directly exposed by the fire itself; however, smoke killed the animals because of the inability of the fire to reach it.

Severe Internal Damage to the Shopping Center

As no human was reported dead during the fire incident, a major damage was made on the structure, particularly the roof of Plaza Latina that partly collapsed. The center is completely destroyed since it has various small businesses that provide Latin goods and services. A heartwarming social media post at the community level followed the incident as depicted below.

Investigation Ongoing

The cause of the fire remains unknown, but Dallas authorities continue to investigate. Prayers and support have been extended to affected families and businesses in the community.
