Operation Midnight Hammer (Social media)
World News: Following the largest American airstrike on Iran’s nuclear facilities amid rising tensions in the Middle East, the B-2 Spirit stealth bombers involved in the mission returned safely to Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri on Sunday. This base is home to the 509th Bomb Wing, the only unit in the United States equipped to operate B-2 bombers.
On a clear Sunday afternoon with light winds, four B-2 aircraft circled the airbase before landing from the north. Within minutes, the remaining three aircraft also touched down safely. Defense officials have described this mission as the largest B-2 bomber operation in US military history.
US President Donald Trump praised the mission as historic. In a social media post, he stated, “There’s no other military in the world capable of executing an operation of this scale. Now is the time to pursue peace. I’m grateful to our pilots for their bravery and professionalism.”
The Pentagon codenamed the operation "Midnight Hammer." Over 125 American aircraft participated, including B-2 bombers, fighter jets, aerial refueling tankers, and surveillance planes. The mission was meticulously planned. As part of the strategy, several aircraft were dispatched in other directions to confuse Iranian air defenses and reduce the chances of detection.
According to General Dan Caine, the US targeted three of Iran’s most critical nuclear sites—Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan. The attack involved dropping powerful GBU-57 bunker-buster bombs, capable of penetrating heavily fortified underground facilities. While Tomahawk missiles launched from a US submarine struck Isfahan, the Fordo and Natanz sites were directly bombed from the air.
Despite Iran’s public denial of any serious damage, new satellite images appear to contradict those claims. In particular, the mountainous area above the Fordo facility shows several large craters and signs of significant structural damage. Similar destruction has been observed at Natanz and Isfahan.
With US bombers now safely back on American soil and Iran vowing to retaliate, the crisis appears far from over. The world now watches closely—will diplomatic channels be reopened to de-escalate the conflict, or are both sides moving toward further confrontation?
