What is Pakistan Army’s plan in Balochistan?

Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said on Monday that the government needs to deploy a large number of troops in Balochistan, as the restive province faces a serious security situation amid its vast geographical area and a recent surge in attacks. Notably, security forces have killed 177 militants after simultaneous attacks by terrorists at 12 locations in the volatile province.

Addressing the National Assembly, Asif said that the soldiers fighting the insurgents are helpless due to the vastness of the region. He said, “Geographically, Balochistan comprises 40 percent of Pakistan's landmass... which is far more difficult to control than a densely populated city and requires the deployment of a large number of forces. Our soldiers are deployed there and are taking action against terrorists, but they are physically overwhelmed due to the sheer size of the area they have to patrol and monitor.”
