Bangladesh Court Convicts Ex-PM Sheikh Hasina; Charged For Crimes Against Humanity (X @DDNewslive)
Bangladesh: In a major breakthrough in the Sheikh Hasina verdict, a Bangladesh court has convicted ex-Prime Minister of crimes against humanity. The court has concluded a months-long trial that found Sheikh Hasina guilty of ordering a crackdown on a student-led uprising last year, as per the reports of Reuters.
Provocative speech and coordinated attacks: As per the court, Sheikh Hasina allegedly made inflammatory comment on July 14, 2024, which further caused attacks on students and locals by law enforcement and party activists.
Ordering use of lethal force, helicopters, and drones: They are also charged with directing violent protests with the use of live ammunition, helicopters, and drones.
Killing of Abu Sayeed in Rangpur: The three accused in the case, Sheikh Hasina, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun are charged with the responsibility for the July 16, 2024 shooting of a student in front of Begum Rokeya University.
Killing of six students in Chankharpul: It is to be noted here that on August 5, 2024, as many as six students were killed in Dhaka. The court has charged the accused of ordering this operation.
Killing and burning of six men in Ashulia: Meanwhile, on August 5, 2024, six people were killed, five bodies burned, and one person allegedly burned alive. In the case, the accused were allegedly involved in the act.
