International News: The world has once again become alert about the increasing cases of corona virus. This virus, which gripped the whole world five years ago, is now seen becoming active again in many parts of South-East Asia. A sudden increase in cases of Covid-19 has been seen in major cities like Singapore, Hong Kong and Bangkok, which has increased the concern of health experts. Although there are no signs of a new wave in India yet, vigilance has been increased here too in view of the increasing cases in neighboring countries. Health experts have especially advised children, the elderly and sick people to be cautious.

28% jump in corona cases in Singapore

During the first week of May, Singapore reported more than 14,200 new COVID-19 cases—a 28% rise compared to the same week last year. As per the Ministry of Health, hospitalizations have increased from 102 to 133, though most patients are showing only mild symptoms.

Which variants are responsible?

The Health Ministry said that the LF.7 and NB.1 variants are playing an important role in the increase happening this time. Both these variants are related to the already existing JN.1 strain. Common symptoms like runny nose, sore throat and fever are being found in infected people. According to experts, it is not yet clear whether these variants are more dangerous than before or not.

Concern in Thailand and Hong Kong too

There has been a surge in Covid cases in Thailand after the Songkran festival held in April. Similarly, there have been reports of an increase in infection in Hong Kong as well. The increasing number of cases in these densely populated areas has raised the alert in other countries as well.

There is no danger in India yet

As per the latest data from India's Health Ministry, the country currently has just 93 active COVID-19 cases. Experts say that at present there are no signs of a new wave, but considering the past experience of Corona, carelessness should not be taken. Children, the elderly and people with weak immunity have been advised to be cautious.

Expert advice

Medical experts have advised wearing masks in crowded areas, washing hands and taking booster doses of the vaccine on time. They say that it is difficult to predict when and how a new wave will emerge, so caution is the biggest solution.
