PM Modi & Donald Trump (Social media)
International News: US President Donald Trump on Friday backtracked from his recent controversial statement, saying that his relationship with India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is strong. Earlier, he had claimed in a social media post that the US has "handed over India and Russia to China." Clarifying the statement a few hours later, Trump said that he considers Modi a strong leader and that his personal relationship with him is very good.
Sharing a picture of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Narendra Modi, Trump wrote, "Looks like we have lost India and Russia. Hope they have a long and successful future with China." This post created a stir in political circles. When he was asked a question about this, he said that his opinion about India is different and the relationship has not deteriorated.

Trump: Well I don’t think we have lost them. I’m disappointed that India is buying Russian oil and I’ve let them know with the 50% tariff. But I get along very well with Modi. pic.twitter.com/34zgzGcG4E
Trump clarified that the reason for his anger is India's purchase of crude oil on a large scale from Russia. He said that this is against the policy of America, and he himself had told this to Prime Minister Modi. Trump reminded that for this reason his government has imposed a 50 percent tariff on India, which has come into effect from the end of August.
Despite his tough stand, Trump praised PM Modi. He said, “Modi is a great prime minister, and I will always be his friend. Yes, in the current circumstances, I do not agree with some of his decisions, but this will not affect our friendship or the relationship between the two countries.” Trump further said that the relationship between India and America is historical, and it will remain strong in the future as well.
Many officials of the Trump administration have made sharp attacks on India in recent months. Economic Affairs Advisor Peter Navarro had even said that the Brahmin class of India is exploiting the countrymen. India called this statement very unfortunate, and the Ministry of External Affairs rejected it outright, calling it factless and misleading.
Amidst all this, India assured that there will be no rift in relations with America. Union Minister Piyush Goyal said that trade talks are going on and they will be taken forward not under the pressure of time but on the basis of patience and dialogue.
