PM Modi and US President Trump (Social media)

International News: The sourness in the relations between India and America gradually increased. It started with the tariff dispute, but there was another reason behind it. Actually, US President Donald Trump wanted to get the Nobel Peace Prize. He claimed that he played an important role in the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, and on this basis, he should get the Nobel. In this regard, he also sought support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Trump's claim and phone call

A report in the New York Times states that in May, when there was tension between India and Pakistan, Trump said that both the countries did the ceasefire only on his advice. After this, in June, he called PM Modi and sought his support for the Nobel Peace Prize. In the conversation, Trump even said that Pakistan is putting his name forward, so India should also do the same.

Modi's reply

PM Modi completely denied this claim. He clearly said that the ceasefire was decided by India and Pakistan through mutual talks; America had no role in it. Modi also reiterated that India never accepts interference by any third country.

India's stand on the report

Although there was no direct response from India on this media report. But at that time Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri had said that there was a conversation of about 35 minutes between Modi and Trump. In this, Modi told Trump that the decision of India and Pakistan is the result of direct talks between the armies of the two countries.

Impact on relations

After this clear stand of PM Modi, tensions increased in relations. A few weeks later, Trump announced the imposition of a 25% tariff on Indian goods. He also imposed additional duty on oil imports from Russia. These decisions further deepened the trade dispute between India and America.
