World news: In a bold statement during a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday, former U.S. President Donald Trump declared that the United States would "take over and own" the Gaza Strip. Trump asserted that the U.S. would be responsible for dismantling unexploded bombs and other hazardous weapons in the war-torn region.

Economic Redevelopment Plans for Gaza

Trump further stated that after securing and clearing the territory, the United States would focus on economically developing the area. "We will do a job with it too," Trump emphasized, hinting at long-term American involvement in rebuilding Gaza’s infrastructure.

Trump and Netanyahu discuss the elimination of Hamas

During their closed-door meeting, Trump and Netanyahu concentrated on eliminating Hamas and restoring stability to the region. Addressing the media, Trump took a sharp jab at his predecessor, Joe Biden, accusing his administration of inaction in the Middle East. “Nobody did anything for four years except demonstrate incompetence,” Trump remarked.

Egypt and Jordan expected to accept Palestinian refugees

Trump claimed that neighboring Egypt and Jordan would take in Palestinian refugees, dismissing their current refusal. “They say they’re not going to accept—I say they will,” he insisted. His remarks have already drawn strong reactions from leaders in both countries, who have consistently opposed the forced displacement of Palestinians.

Reevaluating an independent Palestinian state

In a surprising shift, Trump hinted at reconsidering an independent Palestinian state as part of a potential two-state solution. When asked about his stance on Palestinian statehood, he responded, “Well, a lot of plans change with time.”

Trump acknowledged the devastating toll of ongoing violence since his departure from office and admitted that the current geopolitical landscape presents a “very complex and difficult situation.” He assured reporters that the U.S. would work toward resolving the decades-long conflict.
