World news: Recently, the reality star made headlines when she was seen shilling her winter sale of her clothing line, SKIMS, amid the raging wildfires in Los Angeles. But instead of making more noise over that, Kim switched gears and criticized the meager wage for inmates serving as firefighters fighting the blazes.
Taking to Instagram Stories on Sunday, Kim raised her concerns regarding the low wages being paid to jailed firefighters who put their lives on the line to extinguish flames. She added, "I have spent the last week watching my city burn. I have spoken to many firefighters who are up all night long, using every ounce of their strength to save our community. Of all the five fires in Los Angeles, hundreds of incarcerated firefighters are risking their lives, working 24-hour shifts.
They get paid nearly peanuts to put their lives at stake, getting a measly $1 per hour. Their wages had been frozen at that since 1984 while inflation soared and the fires became more ferocious. This year, they finally reached a consensus on hiking it to $5/hour, but this was voted down at the eleventh hour.
Kim tagged California Governor Gavin Newsom, encouraging him to enact a wage hike reflective of their valor and devotion. She stressed, "They are heroes proving their commitment to the community, and they deserve to be honored appropriately."
The beauty brand SKKN of Kim has also promised to help the victims of the devastating fires. SKKN posted on an Instagram Story that it would donate a considerable amount to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation. Even SKIMS promised to distribute clothing, socks, and underwear to nonprofits helping children and families affected by the disaster.
However, Kim keeps her busy life despite the continuous crisis. She is scheduled to be on the most-watched sixth season of The Kardashians.
