A fire broke out in a two storeyed restaurant cum hotel (X/@urdujournosaeed)

Mumbai: A massive fire broke out at Rangoon Zaika Dhaba, a two-story restaurant and hotel located on LBS Road near JJ Jalebi in Kurla West, Mumbai, on Saturday night. Disaster management authorities said that the fire was reported at 9:17 PM. Till 10:30 PM, the blaze was categorized as Level 1 as it had spread across five to six galas within the premises.

Emergency services on high alert

Four fire engines and three jumbo water tankers were sent to the location immediately to extinguish the fire. Firefighting operations are still ongoing as of 10:40 PM, and the authorities are working very hard to contain the situation. So far, there have been no reported injuries.

Panic among residents in congested area

The fire broke out in a highly congested section of Kurla's LBS Road, leaving the surrounding residents and pedestrians in a state of panic. Videos of the fire began appearing online, depicting huge flames consuming the building and smoke pouring into the night sky. The sensational visuals went viral within a matter of hours, raising safety and infrastructure concerns in the area.

Questions raised over restaurant's legality

According to reports, Rangoon Zaika Dhaba seems to have been running without valid permission. Still, no BMC or local police has issued an official statement that the structure was illegal or that its business operations were illegal. Once the firefighting operation is over, the authorities will further probe into the case.

Situation under control but vigilance continues

As of the recent developments, firefighting operations were still on-going to completely douse the fire and prevent any further spread. The authorities have also advised the locals to remain calm and avoid visiting the area while the situation is being handled.being urged to remain more aware and alert to avoid such mishaps in the future.
