International News: A devastating industrial accident struck Indonesia’s West Java province when a stone quarry collapsed in the Chirebon region, claiming the lives of at least 10 workers and injuring six others. With several individuals still feared trapped beneath the rubble, intensive rescue efforts are ongoing. The tragedy has not only exposed glaring lapses in safety compliance but also raised serious concerns about the systemic negligence that continues to endanger the lives of workers in high-risk sectors. This accident happened on Friday when the workers were working in the mine. Suddenly huge rocks collapsed and the workers were buried under the debris. TV footage showed that rescue teams and heavy machines like excavators were engaged in removing the debris. The bodies were carried to the ambulance in body bags. There has been chaos in the entire area since the incident.

At least 10 killed, 6 injured

According to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), so far 10 bodies have been recovered while six workers have been seriously injured. The injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital. At the same time, many people are still feared to be trapped under the debris. Relief work has been expedited and additional teams have been deployed on the spot.

Heavy machines were also buried under the rubble

The relief agency has informed that three big digging machines (excavators) have also been buried in the debris. This makes it clear how big a disaster the accident has caused. The work of removing the debris was being done with the help of these machines, but now relief work is also facing difficulties.

Questions raised on safety standards

West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi expressed grief over the incident and wrote on social media that the mine "did not meet the standards of safety for workers." He demanded an investigation and assured strict action against the culprits. He also said that the government should implement strict safety rules for workers working in such places.

Rescue operation continues

The rescue work is expected to continue on Saturday as well. According to officials, the operation will continue until the last worker is pulled out of the debris. However, it is not yet clear how many people are still missing. The incident has once again brought to the fore the dangerous conditions and lack of safety in the mining industry in developing countries.
