Tehran: When US President Donald Trump signaled on Tuesday the possibility of talks regarding an agreement between the United States and Iran, faint hopes certainly emerged that this fierce conflict—which has been ongoing for 25 days—might be drawing to a close. However, Iran has now made it clear that it is in absolutely no mood for a settlement. Iran has not only refused to engage in dialogue with the United States but has also openly mocked Donald Trump's claims. On Wednesday, an IRGC spokesperson, taking a jibe at the US, stated that America should not attempt to label its defeat as a "settlement."
The spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned the United States against portraying the unfolding events of the conflict as a diplomatic success. The Iranian spokesperson asserted that the United States would be unable to regain its former strategic and economic standing in the region.
In his statement, the IRGC spokesperson declared, "No trace of your investments in this region will remain, nor will you ever again witness the energy and oil prices of the past." Further mocking Trump's claims, the Iranian spokesperson added, "Have your internal divisions reached such an extent that you are now conversing with yourselves? From day one, our stance has remained—and will continue to remain—unchanged: people like us will never reach a settlement with people like you. Neither now, nor ever."
The Iranian spokesperson continued, "The strategic power you once boasted of has now transformed into a strategic failure." He added, "If it were possible, a nation that styles itself a global superpower would have already extricated itself from this crisis by now. Do not attempt to rebrand your defeat as a settlement. Your era of hollow promises has come to an end."
The IRGC spokesperson also appealed to the regional nations to unite. Questioning the credibility of the United States as a security partner, he stated, "We have no need for a distant nation that prioritizes Israel while treating you like cattle." Expressing skepticism regarding America's security commitments in the Gulf, he also asked, "Will the Americans fire even a single bullet in your defense?"
Notably, US President Donald Trump stated on Monday that very positive discussions have taken place between the United States and Iran over the past two days. He also added that he has instructed the Pentagon to postpone attacks on Iran's energy infrastructure for five days. However, Iran's Foreign Ministry denied that any such talks had occurred, stating that it had received such messages only through intermediaries, in which the US expressed its desire to engage in dialogue.
