Moscow: Russia is bolstering Iran in the ongoing conflict. Russia is reportedly preparing to supply Iran with lethal drones and weaponry. Amidst the prevailing tensions in the Middle East, such discussions have become a subject of intense speculation. Amidst a flurry of claims and counter-claims, the Kremlin on Thursday categorically dismissed a report alleging that Russia is preparing to send combat drones to Iran.

What did Russia say?

A Kremlin spokesperson characterized the report as yet another instance of "fake news" being disseminated by the media and urged the public to disregard such accounts. Specifically, the *Financial Times* published a report on Wednesday—citing Western intelligence sources—stating that Russia is on the verge of dispatching phased shipments of drones, medical supplies, and food to Iran. Citing two anonymous officials, the report further noted that discussions regarding drone deliveries commenced between high-ranking Iranian and Russian officials just days after Israel and the United States launched joint military operations against Tehran.

According to the report, the Iranian-manufactured Shahed-model combat drones have proven to be Tehran's most effective weapon in this conflict. Due to their low cost and ease of production, they have emerged as the backbone of the Iranian arsenal. However, U.S. strikes have severely impacted Iran's drone manufacturing capabilities. Iran has launched multiple waves of missiles and suicide drones targeting U.S. bases across the Gulf region. Initially, Tehran had asserted that its retaliatory strikes were limited exclusively to facilities linked to the United States.

What is US objective in Iran war?

A primary objective of the U.S. military is to completely dismantle Iran's missile and drone manufacturing infrastructure. Admiral Brad Cooper, head of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), stated that since the commencement of hostilities, his forces have struck over 10,000 targets. These strikes have damaged or destroyed 92 percent of Iran's largest vessels, as well as more than two-thirds of the country's missile, drone, and naval production facilities.

Is Russia Repaying a Debt to Iran?

It is being suggested that if a report by the *Financial Times* proves accurate, it could mark a major turning point in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The report states that Russia is preparing to supply Tehran with suicide drones—such as the Geran-2 and Shahed-136—which are based on Iran's indigenous Shahed platform. Analysts believe that due to the heavy damage inflicted upon Iranian drone production facilities by U.S. strikes, Tehran is now compelled to turn to Russia for supplies—a reversal of roles, given that Iran was previously the primary supplier of Shahed drones to Russia. During the war in Ukraine, Russian forces relied heavily on Shahed drones; in response, Ukraine has developed specialized expertise in countering such loitering munitions.

What did the Kremlin say?

Meanwhile, the Kremlin has categorically rejected a hypothesis put forth in a 'New York Times' editorial, which claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin has lost interest in negotiations to end the Ukraine conflict following the outbreak of war in the Middle East. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that this narrative is entirely fabricated and completely detached from reality. He noted that Russia remains in contact with the United States and that a new round of negotiations regarding a peace settlement in Ukraine is anticipated as soon as conditions become favorable.

Peskov affirmed, "We maintain an open stance. We are in contact with the Americans and wish to organize the next round of talks as soon as possible." He added that while some progress has been made in trilateral discussions, several key issues—including regional matters—remain unresolved. Russia has not lost interest in peace negotiations. Throughout this period, the Kremlin has repeatedly emphasized that many reports circulating in the media constitute "fake news" or "disinformation" and should not be trusted.
