Kyiv Plunged Into Darkness as Russian Missiles Hit Energy Infrastructure Across Ukraine (X@Archer83Able)
Russia conducts massive strike on Ukraine: Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, and several other regions were hit by a large-scale Russian missile and drone assault on Friday, leaving thousands without power and damaging critical energy infrastructure. Officials confirmed that at least nine people were injured in the strikes, which also caused a major fire in a residential high-rise building.
According to Ukraine’s Energy Minister Svitlana Grynchuk, Russian forces targeted power plants and other energy facilities in what she described as one of the most intense attacks in recent weeks. “Energy workers are doing everything possible to minimize the impact of the strikes,” she said, adding that repair crews would begin restoration work once the security situation allowed.
The Ukrainian Air Force said Kyiv was under simultaneous ballistic missile and drone attacks and urged residents to stay in shelters. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that several explosions were reported in central and eastern parts of the city. “The left bank of the capital is without electricity, and there are also problems with water supply,” Klitschko said on Telegram.

At least five of the injured were taken to hospital, while emergency services battled flames in a high-rise building that caught fire following one of the strikes. Videos posted on social media showed parts of Kyiv suddenly going dark as power lines failed, followed by images of drones exploding midair before crashing to the ground.
The impact of the assault was felt across Ukraine. In the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region, seven drone strikes were reported, injuring three people and damaging local infrastructure, regional military chief Ivan Fedorov said. Local authorities described the situation as “tense but under control.”
Russia has increased its bombardment of Ukraine’s energy grid and railway network in recent weeks, a move officials in Kyiv believe is aimed at disrupting daily life and creating public unrest ahead of the winter months.
President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Moscow of trying to “create chaos” by deliberately attacking power and transport systems. He said Ukraine’s defense forces were working to intercept incoming missiles and drones and that counterattacks inside Russia were delivering “tangible results.”

“Our drone and missile operations are affecting Russia’s internal stability and driving up their fuel prices,” Zelensky said in his evening address.
Energy officials have warned of potential power outages in several regions but assured citizens that emergency crews are working around the clock to restore supply as quickly as possible.
