Pakistan Army Chief
International News: Pakistan is on the verge of bankruptcy and the country's army chief Asim Munir is living in a different world. This is a world full of luxury, comfort and unlimited privileges. This is the reason why Asim Munir, infamously known as 'Mullah General', is travelling abroad more than Pakistan's foreign minister. Recently, Mullah Munir visited America. During this, he also had lunch with US President Donald Trump. Now Munir is going on a royal visit to Sri Lanka. This visit will last from 20 to 23 July. During this time, the entire cost of the visit will be borne by the taxpayers of impoverished Pakistan.
General Munir's visit to Sri Lanka has been scheduled like any billionaire tourist. During this time, he will travel to Sri Lanka by a chartered flight. He will enjoy ceremonial bike escort and visit luxurious places. In Sri Lanka, he will ride a helicopter not once but several times. He will fly over Sri Lanka's famous Sigiriya Rock Fortress and Adam's Peak.
The Sri Lankan army chief is expected to stay in one of the most luxurious five-star hotels in Colombo. The cost of Munir's visit is also in the news because Pakistan is not providing such facilities even to cabinet ministers as part of its cost-cutting measures. The Pakistani government has banned cabinet ministers from travelling abroad, banned them from staying in luxury hotels and banned all non-essential expenses. But apparently, the order of the Pakistan government does not apply to the army.
Pakistan's economy is in rapid decline. Its foreign debt has risen to over $133 billion. Unemployment and poverty are rising. Half of the federal budget goes to debt repayment. The World Bank is warning of rising food insecurity for millions. Yet, while ordinary citizens queue up for subsidised flour and pay school fees, the army chief is busy taking a flight to Sri Lanka.
