Pakistan in Crisis: Pashtuns Join Baloch Rebels Against Munir’s Army (Image Source: Social Media)
After Balochistan, unrest has now erupted in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The Pashtuns of Pakistan have declared an uprising against Munir’s army. The Pashtuns are angry because, on one hand, Munir’s army is carrying out a massacre of Pashtuns in Waziristan, and on the other hand, a conspiracy to assassinate the imprisoned ‘Niazi Pashtun’—Imran Khan—has come to light.
Two days ago, Imran Khan wrote a letter stating that if anything happens to him, General Asim Munir will be directly responsible. Imran Khan's party, PTI, claims that the former prime minister has been locked in a death cell inside the jail.
According to Imran Khan, his wife is also being harassed along with him. Imran Khan is being held in Adiala Jail. The electricity connection to the cell of Imran and Bushra Bibi has reportedly been cut. They are not being allowed to meet anyone in jail. Imran’s sister has alleged that Asim Munir has conspired to have Imran Khan killed.
Meanwhile, both of Imran Khan’s sons have returned from London to Pakistan and have joined the ongoing rebellion in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. On August 5, PTI is planning to stage protests across Pakistan.
Pashtuns account for around 18% of Pakistan’s population. Most of them reside in Khyber, the province along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. This region is considered a stronghold of PTI. Currently, Khyber is the only province in Pakistan where PTI holds power.
PTI has performed well in this region, but the current political crisis has now put even this government at risk. In response, Imran Khan has openly challenged the central government and Munir’s army.
Meanwhile, Baloch fighters have already been wreaking havoc in Pakistan. Due to their activities, Section 144 has been imposed for a long time in Quetta and surrounding areas. From January to June 2025 alone, Baloch fighters have carried out 286 attacks.
These attacks have led to the deaths of 780 people in Pakistan. Recently, Baloch fighters killed three Qawwals from the Sabri Brothers group. This incident has further escalated the political tension in Pakistan.
