Peter Navarro (Social media)
International News: US President Donald Trump's senior trade advisor Peter Navarro has once again put India in the dock. Navarro said that India is only making profits by buying oil from Russia, and this profit is running Russia's war machine. According to him, India's trade and tariff policy is harming America's interests, and American jobs are in danger.
Navarro wrote on the social media platform X that India's large-scale purchase of oil from Russia is directly giving strength to Russia's war. He said, "India is doing this deal only for profit, while people are dying in Ukraine and Russia, and American taxpayers are paying the price for it." Along with this, he also described India's high tariff policies as a loss-making deal for America.
Navarro has previously described India as "Kremlin's laundromat" and "economic support" for Russia. In a recent interview he even said, "This war is actually Modi's war, because the path to peace somehow passes through New Delhi."
India completely rejected Navarro's statements. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "We have seen Navarro's statements. These are not only misleading but also beyond facts. India-US relations are based on a strong partnership, and we are focused on taking them forward."
He also clarified that relations between India and the US are based on democratic values and deep people-to-people relations. Jaiswal assured that talks are going on on trade-related issues and India is in constant communication with the US side.
Not only Peter Navarro, but other White House officials have also expressed displeasure over India's energy purchases from Russia. Economic advisor Kevin Hassett said that President Trump and his team are disappointed with this issue, but they hope that India will show a positive attitude in the future.
Donald Trump himself has many times described India's tariff policy as harmful for America. He called India America's "most tariff-ridden partner" and described the trade relationship as "completely one-sided."
Navarro's continuous attacks have raised questions about whether this will affect India-US relations. However, India has made it clear that its foreign policy is independent and it will take decisions keeping its national interests in mind.
Experts believe that the issues of trade and security cooperation between the two countries are so important that the relationship will continue to move forward despite these disputes.
