General Upendra Dwivedi (Social media)
National News: Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi has clarified that the recent military confrontation with Pakistan was not limited to the ceasefire of May 10. According to him, even after the end of Operation Sindoor, the situation remained complicated, and many important strategic decisions had to be taken.
This entire incident started after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on 22 April. 26 innocent people lost their lives in this attack. After this, India targeted nine terrorist bases located in Pakistan under Operation Sindoor on 7 May. In response to this action of India, Pakistan attacked with missiles and drones, although Indian security forces foiled most of the attacks.
Speaking at the launch event of the book titled 'Operation Sindoor: Before and Beyond' held in Delhi, the Army Chief said, "Many people think that the war ended on May 10, but in reality it was not so. A long series of decisions continued even after the ceasefire." He explained that when to attack, when to hold back, and the extent to which resources should be used—all of these were constantly considered.
General Dwivedi said that during this time he also took advice from many army veterans. He said, "I spoke to many former officers on 22 and 23 April. They suggested many important options. Every step, be it action or exercising restraint, had far-reaching effects."
The Army Chief praised the quick response and coordination of the Indian Army during the operation. He said, "In these 88 hours, there was no time to give orders and then take action. The entire operation proceeded like a rhythmic wave; every soldier knew what to do."
During Operation Sindoor, India not only targeted the terrorist hideouts but also destroyed Pakistan's airbase and radar system. There was heavy shelling across the border, but the Indian Army maintained its lead on every front. Drone and missile attacks from Pakistan were also thwarted to a large extent.
General Dwivedi said that this entire operation is a symbol of the capability and resolve of the Indian Army. The operation gave the message that India is ready to go to any extent to protect its security and citizens.
