Denise Reyes, a popular social media influencer, has tragically passed away at the age of 27, just three days after undergoing cosmetic surgery. Her sudden death has once again raised serious concerns about the safety of cosmetic procedures.
Reyes had informed her social media followers that she was undergoing a liposuction procedure on Sunday, January 26, and was in the recovery phase. However, according to her uncle, Ammao Rodríguez, complications arose the following day when surgeon Dr. Orlando Gamboa administered an intravenous drug. Reyes had an adverse reaction, leading to a cardiac arrest. She was immediately taken out of the recovery room, but the situation quickly worsened.
A close friend accompanying Reyes was asked to wait outside the recovery room while doctors informed the family about her critical condition. Due to the absence of an intensive care unit (ICU) at San Pablo Medical Clinic, Reyes was transferred to Manzur Hospital. Unfortunately, despite medical efforts, she did not recover and passed away on Wednesday, January 29. Her uncle confirmed that Reyes was in perfect health before the surgery and had no prior medical conditions.
In response to the tragedy, Rodríguez has filed a legal complaint against Dr. Gamboa with Chiapas health authorities. “Denise deserves justice, and the doctor must be held accountable for his actions,” he stated.
This is not the first time Dr. Gamboa has faced allegations. In December 2024, he was accused of negligence in another liposuction-related death. At the time, he denied involvement, claiming that the procedure was conducted by an unaffiliated team.
Reyes first gained recognition in 2022 under the moniker ‘Nenis,’ a term used in Mexico for women selling products online. Through dedication and perseverance, she built a successful business and leveraged Instagram and TikTok to expand her brand.
Her untimely passing has left her family and followers heartbroken, especially her eight-year-old son. Her sister, Maciel Reyes, shared an emotional tribute on Facebook, saying, “You always did what you wanted and gave your all—so independent, spontaneous, and outgoing. Sister, I love you with all my heart. My soul aches, and I wish I could turn back time, but I can’t.”
