International News: During a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting held on Tuesday, top US diplomat Dorothy Shea acknowledged that the Trump administration had played a key role in reducing tensions between India and Pakistan through mediation efforts. Shea emphasized the United States' long-standing commitment to facilitating peace and resolving international disputes.

US Committed to Global Peace Efforts

Speaking in a session chaired by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Shea reiterated that the United States remains committed to playing a mediating role in global conflicts. She pointed out that in the past three months alone, the US had helped de-escalate tensions in several volatile regions, including between Israel and Iran, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, and India and Pakistan.

She urged all UN member states to engage in constructive dialogue and work toward peaceful solutions in their respective disputes.

Trump’s Ceasefire Claims Revisited

President Donald Trump has previously claimed on multiple occasions that he successfully brokered a ceasefire between India and Pakistan during his term. However, the Indian government has consistently denied any third-party mediation, maintaining that all issues between India and Pakistan must be resolved bilaterally.

Despite India’s denial, the recent remarks by Shea at the UN provide renewed attention to the Trump administration’s behind-the-scenes diplomatic efforts during a time of heightened tension between the two South Asian neighbors.

Pakistan Raises Kashmir and Water Treaty Issues

During the same meeting, Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar brought up the long-standing issue of Jammu and Kashmir, as well as India’s recent decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty. These topics have frequently appeared in discussions led by Pakistan at international forums.

In response, Dorothy Shea underlined the importance of adhering to proper diplomatic processes and peaceful procedures for dispute resolution, without directly commenting on either of the two specific issues raised by Pakistan.

UNSC Adopts Pakistan's Resolution

The Security Council also unanimously adopted a resolution proposed by Pakistan aimed at enhancing mechanisms for peaceful resolution of international disputes. The proposal was praised for contributing to the promotion of global peace and security. It reinforces the need for dialogue, diplomacy, and multilateral cooperation in addressing and resolving conflicts.

This unanimous adoption marks a rare moment of agreement in the UNSC and is seen as a diplomatic success for Pakistan during its temporary membership and presidency of the Council in July.
