Washington: The United States has resumed airstrikes against Iran. A senior US official said that the airstrikes targeted multiple targets inside Iran on Thursday, ending a brief pause in military action, according to reports. This latest US military action comes after Iran fired several ballistic missiles at n American military base in Jordan this week.
US Central Command said all incoming missiles were intercepted and the attack was thwarted.
According to CENTCOM, the missiles were fired from Iranian soil and were described as an attempted surprise attack against US forces in the Middle East. The command did not confirm the potential target of the attack, but US media reports said the missiles were aimed at a US military base in Jordan.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump had warned that any attack on American troops would be met with a forceful response. According to reports, Trump said, "We will defeat them. We will attack them very strongly. They will pay a price."
The US and Saudi Arabia also carried out joint airstrikes against Iran-backed militias in Iraq late Tuesday night. According to the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), at least 20 people were killed in these attacks. US Central Command said the strikes targeted militia logistics centers and weapons depots in eastern Iraq.
According to the US, more than 30 drone attacks were carried out against US forces and Saudi Arabian energy installations in the last three days, which were blamed on Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The action came after Saudi Arabia announced that its air defense systems had intercepted drones heading towards oil installations in the country's Eastern Province. Riyadh blamed the attacks on Iran-backed armed groups operating from Iraq.
The latest US airstrikes come amid reports of continued indirect diplomatic engagement between Washington and Tehran through regional mediators. Last week, the US temporarily suspended its bombing campaign against Iran. US officials said the halt in military action was to assess the situation and explore diplomatic solutions.
Earlier this week, Trump said that talks between the US and Iran were progressing well and that a deal was possible. However, he warned that military action could be resumed if the talks failed.
"We're having good conversations. I think there's a good chance something will happen, and if it doesn't, we'll go back to what we were doing two days ago," Trump told reporters.
The new US attacks also come after Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met at the White House. Iran was a key topic of discussion.
