New Delhi: A girl's beauty is enhanced by her hair, but what could be more heartbreaking than losing it? Imagine the hair that is her pride, from her shoulders to her feet, suddenly facing a problem.
Something similar happened to Mahima, who has been suffering from alopecia since the age of two, a medical condition that causes hair loss in patches or complete baldness. But she never let this disease weaken her, and she was supported by her husband, whose advice surprised people across the country. This marriage is also a slap in the face of societal norms.
Mahima Ghai participated in her wedding ceremonies without hair, with peace and confidence. Her actions show that a bride's beauty is not determined solely by her hair or appearance. Living with alopecia hasn't been easy for Mahima. In an Instagram post, she shared that her hair started falling out long before she accepted herself.
For years, she underwent treatment, people asked strange questions, and stared at her as if there was something wrong with her. Hair loss wasn't just a physical problem; it affected her mind and emotions as well. But with time, Mahima accepted herself as she is, and today she has become an example of courage for others.
Later, Mahima revealed that wearing a wig on her wedding day was never an option for her. She didn't want to look at her wedding pictures and feel like she was seeing someone else. She wanted to remember that day exactly as it was. For a long time, hair has been associated with womanhood and a bride's beauty, especially in the context of marriage. But Mahima challenged this notion silently and effortlessly.
Her husband, Shashank, supported her decision, encouraging Mahima by saying, "You don't need to wear a wig; you are beautiful just the way you are."
In the comments, people openly admired her beauty and confidence. One user wrote, "I've seen such a beautiful bride after a long time. This is pure courage." Another person wrote, "I am also struggling with alopecia, and this brought tears to my eyes." A third person said, "You didn't just get married; you showed how many people perceive themselves." Several women also admitted that they still hide their hair loss.
One of them wrote, "I haven't reached that point yet, but seeing you stand there with such confidence has given me hope."
