National News: Late Thursday night, panic spread across Firozabad’s Tundla area when part of an under-construction railway overbridge suddenly collapsed. Workers engaged in the construction were trapped under heavy concrete debris. Local residents heard loud screams and quickly gathered at the spot. Police and district officials were alerted immediately, and rescue teams started operations with full force. The sudden collapse left the entire region in shock, adding to recent accidents across Uttar Pradesh.
According to eyewitnesses, nearly 16 to 18 workers were working on the bridge when a major portion fell. At least 12 workers got trapped beneath the rubble. With the help of JCB machines, debris was cleared, and injured workers were taken out one by one. Several of them were in serious condition and rushed to F.H. Medical College by ambulances. Family members of workers rushed to the hospital after hearing the news, while chaos continued at the site.
Soon after the incident, the contractor responsible for the bridge reportedly went missing. Locals alleged negligence in the construction process, pointing towards poor safety measures. Police officers on site confirmed that legal action would follow once the rescue mission was complete. Officials stressed that ensuring labor safety is their first priority. The collapse has raised serious questions about ongoing infrastructure projects in the region.
This accident comes just days after multiple blasts rocked different districts of Uttar Pradesh. In Farrukhabad, a coaching center blast killed two students. Kanpur witnessed explosions near a mosque, while Ayodhya faced a deadly blast claiming five lives. With the Firozabad bridge collapse, public anger is growing, and demands for stricter safety checks are rising. Locals fear that negligence and repeated lapses are costing innocent lives across the state.
Following the collapse, authorities diverted train passengers from Deepa Chauraha to the eastern gate using the underpass. The collapsed area has been completely sealed for safety reasons. Police have deployed additional forces to maintain order and prevent crowds from gathering. Officials said normal traffic will not be allowed near the accident site until safety inspections are completed. Travelers were advised to use alternative routes to avoid delays and risks.
Top officials, including District Magistrate Ramesh Ranjan, SSP Saurabh Dixit, ADM Vishu Raja, SDM Ankit Verma, and railway authorities, rushed to the site to monitor the situation. They directed immediate rescue work and medical support for injured workers. JCB machines continued to remove heavy concrete blocks throughout the night. The presence of senior officers gave some relief to the worried locals, though anger over poor safety remained high.
The Firozabad bridge collapse has once again highlighted the urgent need for strict monitoring of construction projects. Experts say repeated accidents are due to weak supervision and lack of accountability. Locals demanded action against the contractor and engineers involved. As Uttar Pradesh continues to expand its infrastructure, safety checks must be prioritized to prevent further tragedies. Until then, every worker and traveler remains at risk on unsafe projects.
