Mumbai: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has made it clear that it will contest the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections on its own. The party on Friday announced that it will field candidates in all 227 wards and will not form an alliance with any party. Along with this, the party has also released the first list of 21 candidates. AAP says that the current condition of Mumbai shows that now the city needs a new and honest alternative.

What allegations did AAP make on the condition of BMC and Mumbai?

AAP alleged that Mumbai, which is called the economic engine of the country, is a victim of poor conditions today. According to the party, the annual budget of BMC is around Rs 74,447 crore, which is considered to be the highest in Asia, yet Mumbaikars are getting poor civic amenities. The party claims that Mumbaikars, who pay the highest taxes in the country, have been disappointed on the front of education, health, transport and cleanliness.

What questions were raised on education and health system?

AAP said that BMC schools are continuously being closed, and in those that are running, the quality of education is falling. The condition of primary health centers was said to be weak, while government hospitals were overburdened. The party alleged that BEST bus service was systematically weakened, making movement of common people difficult.

What does AAP say on cleanliness, pollution and environment?

The party said that the garbage disposal system has completely broken down and filth is spread everywhere in the city. AAP also claimed that some of the most expensive real estate in the world is also surrounded by filth. Regarding the environment, the party said that the number of trees is decreasing rapidly, due to which pollution has reached dangerous levels. The party alleges that the AQI has now become as bad as Delhi, whereas Mumbai is a coastal city. Additionally, questions were raised over the release of untreated sewage into the open sea.

What did AAP say about BMC's administration and funds?

AAP said that BMC has been running without public representation for the last four years. The party alleges that fixed deposits worth about Rs 90 thousand crore have reduced to the lowest level, which is the result of political anarchy and mismanagement. AAP said all traditional parties put their self-interests above the public and caused harm to Mumbai.

What is AAP's logic behind calling itself the solution?

AAP said that it is not just an option but a solution. The party claimed that **under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann, better education, health, water and electricity have been provided in Delhi and Punjab without corruption and without debt. The party says there is now a need for a “broom” in BMC to clean out the corrupt and incompetent people.

What are the seats, vote share and election date?

AAP said that last time in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the party had gotten 5.16% of the vote share and more than 2.73 lakh votes in Mumbai, which will be further improved this time. The party will contest alone on 227 seats. According to the State Election Commission, elections for 29 municipal bodies in Maharashtra including Mumbai will be held on January 15 and counting of votes will take place on January 16.
