Tragedy at Haidergarh Temple (Social media)
National News: A tragic incident took place early Monday morning at the Aausaneshwar Temple in Haidergarh, Uttar Pradesh. Around 3 a.m., an electric wire fell onto a tin shed, causing an electric current to spread. This led to a sudden panic among the devotees present at the temple, resulting in a stampede. In the chaos, two people lost their lives, and 37 others were injured. Several of the injured are in critical condition.
Hundreds of people had gathered at the Aausaneshwar Temple since midnight to perform the holy ritual of Jalabhishek as part of Sawan Monday celebrations. To protect devotees from the weather, a tin roof had been installed over the waiting area. Around 3 a.m., a live wire accidentally fell on the shed, which led to electric current spreading through the metal. Panic broke out as people began running in fear. Many fell and were injured during the stampede.
Prashant, a 22-year-old man from Mubarakpur village in Trivediganj, was among the two people who died in the incident. 37 injured devotees were taken to hospitals in Haidergarh and Trivediganj. One of the seriously injured, Arjun from Majheesa village in Raebareli, was referred to the district hospital for better treatment.
Local officials have said that monkeys are often seen around the temple premises. It is suspected that the wire fell after monkeys jumped onto it, which caused it to snap and land on the tin shed.
District Magistrate Shashank Tripathi and Superintendent of Police Arpit Vijayvargiya promptly reached the spot as soon as the incident was reported. They inspected the area and directed medical staff to ensure proper treatment for the injured. An investigation has been ordered to find out the exact cause of the incident.
A total of 37 individuals sustained injuries in the incident. The district administration has released a detailed list of the victims with their names, addresses, and police station areas to help families locate their loved ones. The list includes men, women, and children from various nearby villages.
The incident has raised significant concerns about the safety measures in place at the temple. Despite the large crowd, there seemed to be no proper safety checks or electrical supervision. Locals are now demanding stronger safety measures and proper crowd management for future religious events to prevent such tragedies.
