Kolkata: There was a stir in the politics of West Bengal in the early hours of Saturday when a team of police along with central security forces reached the Kalighat residence of Trinamool Congress National General Secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee in Kolkata. This police action started between 2:30 and 3 in the morning and continued for several hours. It was told that the team had come in search of Sumit Roy, personal aide of Abhishek Banerjee in a case. As soon as the news of the action was received, TMC chief Mamata Banerjee also reached the spot, after which the entire incident took a political colour.

According to sources, a joint team of West Medinipur Police and Kolkata Police had reached Abhishek Banerjee's residence in connection with an investigation. Officials say they were looking for Sumit Roy, whose name has come up in a case related to alleged extortion. The police team entered the premises and searched many parts and also interrogated the people present there.

According to media reports, when the police team reached the residence, the security personnel deployed there first tried to stop them. After this, a situation of debate and tension continued for some time. Later the police team went inside the premises and started the search operation.
