Batla House
National News: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, addressing the Lok Sabha, accused the Congress party of maintaining a soft stance on terrorism. Referring to the 2008 Batla House encounter, he questioned the emotional reaction of Congress leaders and emphasized that under the BJP government, terrorists have received a strong and uncompromising response.
In his speech, Amit Shah mentioned the recent Pahalgam attack and said that our army found and killed the attackers within three months. Taking a jibe at the opposition, he said, "Yesterday they were asking where the attackers went, now I say - our army killed them." He also said that the terrorists who used to hide during the tenure of previous governments are now being brought out and eliminated.
Amit Shah, citing the 2008 Batla House encounter, said that at that time some Congress leaders had mourned the dead terrorists. Shah specifically targeted Congress leader Salman Khurshid and said, "I was having breakfast and saw on TV that Salman Khurshid was crying. He said that Sonia Gandhi had cried after seeing the pictures of those terrorists. If someone had to cry, then they should have cried for Shaheed Mohan Chand Sharma, who was martyred in the encounter."
On 13 September 2008, about 30 people were killed and dozens were injured in a series of bomb blasts in Delhi. Indian Mujahideen had taken responsibility for these attacks. After this, on 19 September, a team of Delhi Police raided a flat in Batla House, where terrorists were reported to be hiding. Two terrorists Atif Amin and Mohammad Sajid were killed in the encounter, along with Delhi Police's brave officer Mohan Chand Sharma also attained martyrdom.
During the 2012 Uttar Pradesh election campaign, Salman Khurshid had said that Sonia Gandhi had cried after seeing the pictures of the killed terrorists. Referring to this statement, Amit Shah said that he has saved that speech in his mobile and he can also make it public in the Lok Sabha.
Amit Shah challenged opposition leader Rahul Gandhi to tell what action was taken on the terrorist attacks during the UPA government. He said, "The criminals of Baisaran Valley were eliminated by our army. Now no one needs to ask questions. Rahul Gandhi should answer what steps were taken against the terrorists during his rule."
