National News: Tej Pratap Yadav is once again in the news in Bihar politics. After being expelled from the Rashtriya Janata Dal, he filed his nomination for the Mahua assembly seat under the banner of his new party, the Janshakti Janata Dal. He brought a photo of his late grandmother with him to the nomination, describing this move as an attempt to send an emotional message. This move is not only a rebellion against the RJD but also an attempt to reassert his political influence.

Assets declared in the affidavit

According to the affidavit filed, Tej Pratap Yadav has total assets worth ₹2.88 crore (approximately $2.88 million USD). This includes movable assets worth approximately ₹91.65 lakh (approximately $9.16 million USD) and immovable assets worth ₹1.96 crore (approximately $1.96 million USD). Interestingly, in 2020, he declared movable assets worth ₹1.22 crore (approximately $1.6 million USD) and immovable assets worth ₹1.6 crore (approximately $1.6 million USD). This means that movable assets have decreased this time, while the value of real estate has increased slightly.

Eight criminal cases registered

The affidavit also clarified that eight criminal cases are registered against Tej Pratap Yadav. These include serious sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including 302, 324, 120B, and 341. He also faces charges of dowry harassment, the SC/ST Act, and the Arms Act. However, he has not been convicted in any of these cases. His divorce case with his wife, Aishwarya Rai, is currently pending in a family court in Patna, so details of those cases were not included in the affidavit.

Lalu had expelled

In May 2025, Tej Pratap was expelled from the party for six years by his father and RJD President Lalu Prasad Yadav. The reason given was "irresponsible behavior." Following this decision, Tej Pratap formed a new party, the Janshakti Janata Dal, and is now contesting elections on its ticket. This move is considered the biggest test of his political future.

Politics and controversy always go together

Tej Pratap Yadav's political career has always been surrounded by controversy. Sometimes his statements caused controversy, and sometimes his personal life brought him into the spotlight. Recently, he claimed on social media that he was in a relationship with a woman. Following this, the party took strict action and expelled him. Later, Tej Pratap said his account had been hacked.

He became an MLA in 2020

Tej Pratap Yadav became an RJD MLA from the Mahua constituency in 2020. He subsequently won the Hasanpur seat. Despite a tumultuous career, he remains one of Bihar's most prominent leaders. By contesting from Mahua again, he is attempting to establish his new party's credibility.

Bihar election excitement increases

The 2025 Bihar Assembly elections are set to be extremely interesting. Voting will be held in two phases in the state – on November 6 and 11. Counting of votes will take place on November 14. This will determine Tej Pratap Yadav's new term from the Mahua constituency and the future of his party. It remains to be seen whether the public will give him another chance or whether his controversies will have a detrimental effect on his political career.
