Foreign Funding Used for Religious Conversions Revealed in ATS Charge Sheet (X)

National News: The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has filed a charge sheet against Jalaluddin Shah, commonly known as Changur Baba, and several of his associates. The charge sheet reveals a major foreign-funded religious conversion racket.

Changur Baba used funds from others countries

According to the investigation, Changur Baba carried out large-scale religious conversions in various cities across Uttar Pradesh, from Lucknow to Mumbai. He used funds from countries like Pakistan, Dubai, Canada, Saudi Arabia, and Nepal. This money came through the bank accounts of his associates, Neetu (Parveen) and Naveen Rohra, and the total amount is said to be over ₹100 crore.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached properties worth Rs 13 crore linked to Neetu Rohra under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Other persons also named in the chargesheet include Chhangur Baba's son Mehboob and court employee Rajesh Upadhyay. This reflects the breadth of the entire network.

Manipulated vulnerable groups

The investigation also revealed that conversion activities were carried out under the guise of religious gatherings and spiritual events. Chhangur Baba manipulated vulnerable groups, such as women and economically disadvantaged people, into this process by mentally influencing and pressuring them. Authorities have identified approximately 3,000 individuals involved in this network, of whom approximately 400 were actively involved over a long period of time.

The chargesheet also mentions foreign passports and international travel, making it clear that this was an organized and international operation.
