Haryana News: Senior Congress leader Kumari Selja firmly rejected an invitation from Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) amid speculation about internal discord within the Congress party ahead of the Haryana elections. The 61-year-old Dalit leader, a prominent figure in the Congress, emphasized her unwavering loyalty to the party.

“Congress runs in my blood. Just as my father was wrapped in the party’s flag, I too will depart in the same way,” Selja said during a media event, brushing aside Khattar’s suggestion to consider switching political allegiances. Addressing recent reports of internal conflicts within the Congress, Selja clarified that while the party is undergoing some internal discussions, they are part of the decision-making process and nothing unusual. She stated, “There are always internal discussions that aren’t meant for public disclosure. The party is moving forward, and these are routine matters in decision-making.”

BJP vs Congress goes high stakes

Responding to the ongoing speculation about her staying away from the election campaign, she maintained that it is up to the party to decide on candidate selection. “Anyone can make a claim. My statements may have caused concern for some, but that’s the nature of politics,” she added. Khattar, on his part, had hinted at the possibility of Selja joining BJP, stating, "There is our Dalit sister sitting at home. We are ready with an offer, and if she comes, we are ready to induct her." Despite not being fielded in the upcoming Haryana assembly elections, Selja reaffirmed her commitment to the Congress, dispelling any rumors of discontent within the party.
