New Delhi: There was dense fog in Delhi and surrounding areas on Tuesday morning. At many places, even a little part of the road ahead was not clearly visible. For this reason the Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert. This means that the situation is not normal and there may be difficulty in travel.
In Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad, visibility was recorded below 50 meters in many areas. In the morning, office goers and school buses had to move at a slow speed. It became difficult to walk on the road without car headlights and fog lights. Traffic remained slow at many places so that accidents do not occur.
There was a direct impact on the speed of flights at Delhi Airport.
Airlines have sent messages to passengers advising them to check the status before travelling. Many of those who went out by morning flight had to wait for hours.
Railways were also affected due to fog. Due to low visibility on the track, many trains were run at slow speed. Many express and passenger trains arrived late. Due to this, crowding at stations increased, and people remained stuck in a state of uncertainty. Those who had connecting plans had to change their travel time.
Low temperature, cold winds, and dust and smoke particles in the air together are making the fog thick. The wind speed is low, so the fog remains stagnant instead of spreading. The air quality is already bad; hence, pollution and fog together are making the atmosphere even heavier.
Such conditions may persist in the morning for the next one or two days. Some improvement is expected in the afternoon, but caution is necessary while traveling in the morning.
