Major Opposition Rift: DMK Quits INDIA Bloc, Accuses Congress of Political Betrayal in Tamil Nadu (OpenAi)
Chennai: There has been a sudden earthquake in the politics of Tamil Nadu. DMK has decided to separate from the opposition alliance INDIA. Party spokesperson TKS Elangovan clearly said that DMK is no longer a part of the INDIA block. Earlier, the party had announced it would not attend the INDIA alliance meeting to be held in Delhi on June 8. This decision came after the Congress moved to support the Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam or TVK-led government after the elections.
DMK leaders say that Congress had contested the assembly elections along with them. After the results came, Congress's stance changed. He extended support to the Vijay-led government and in return took two posts in the cabinet. Many DMK leaders have called this a direct "backstabbing" move. There is anger among party workers also about this decision.
In a statement issued from the DMK headquarters, it was said that keeping in mind the sentiments of the workers, distance has been maintained from the Delhi meeting. The party made it clear that DMK will not participate in the meeting where Congress will be present. The statement also said that this step has been taken to protect the honor of the workers.
The effect of political bitterness has reached the Parliament. DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi had written a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla demanding to sit separately from Congress MPs. According to sources, the Lok Sabha Secretariat has approved this request. Allocation of new seats is still pending. In political circles, this is being seen as a growing gap between the two parties.
DMK has distanced itself from Congress, but its stance towards other opposition parties is soft. Party leaders say that they will continue to support the opposition parties on issues related to the public in Parliament. That is, displeasure with Congress does not mean that there will be distance on every issue.
DMK is considered a major opposition force in South India. Its separation from the INDIA alliance is not a good sign for opposition unity. Experts believe that its impact may be visible on national politics in the coming days. Given the current state of relations between Congress and DMK, there is little hope of an early reconciliation between the two.
