The election campaign for Delhi’s 2025 Assembly elections came to a halt on Monday evening at 5 PM. Voting for the 70 seats in the Delhi Legislative Assembly will take place on Wednesday, February 5, with the results scheduled to be announced on February 8. In light of the elections, the Election Commission has instructed authorities in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana to close liquor stores in areas bordering Delhi until 6 PM on February 5.
A total of 699 candidates are vying for the 70 seats in Delhi’s Assembly elections. Throughout the campaign, the three major parties—incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Congress—launched sharp attacks on each other. Each party also made a slew of populist promises to attract voters, especially as they competed for the attention of Delhi’s electorate.
In addition to the liquor store ban, which will remain in place until the end of voting on February 5 and on the counting day, February 8, the Election Commission has introduced a new "Queue Management System" (QMS) app. This allows voters to track real-time foot traffic at polling stations using the "Delhi Election-2025 QMS" app.
As part of efforts to improve accessibility, the Election Commission also rolled out a home voting service for senior citizens and differently-abled individuals. Of the 7,553 eligible voters who registered for this service, 6,980 have already cast their votes, with the service running from January 24 to February 4.
