Exceptional decision! Court grants girl to wear diaper during her NEET exam, know why

The girl was dealing with Neurogenic bladder, spectrum disorder, LETM and NMO, so was given the permission to wear diaper.

In an exceptional move, the Madras High Court has permitted a 19-year-old NEET aspirant to wear a diaper due to Neurogenic Bladder. The permission was given to the girl for the exam that was held on Sunday, May 5. 

According to the sources, the girl is dealing with Neurogenic bladder, spectrum disorder, LETM and NMO.

The court while passing the order stated that the girl at the age of 4 had burn injuries on her face and hot oil scalding, after which she was unable to regulate her bladder and needed constant diaper changes. 

What is a Neurogenic bladder condition?

Neurogenic bladder is one of the urinary conditions in which people lack bladder control due to a brain, spinal cord or nerve problem. This nerve damage can be due to diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson's disease or diabetes. Infection of the brain or spinal cord, heavy metal poisoning, stroke, spinal cord injury, or major pelvic surgery can be among the reasons that can lead to Neurogenic bladder. The bladder problem is often found in people who are born with issue in spinal cord, such as spina bifida.

The two major types of bladder control problems are – over-active and underactive. 

Leaking Urine with Overactive Bladder

According to experts, with an overactive bladder, the person feels a sudden urge to go the bathroom that you can't ignore. The person who deals with the problem often feel the urge to got to washroom, feeling afraid that urine may leak. Sometimes you may gush a large amount of urine. Sometimes urine will leak while you sleep.

Urinary Retention/Obstruction with Underactive Bladder

According to the University of Michigan, people with an underactive bladder are often seen with diabetes, MS, polio, syphilis or major pelvic surgery. The bladder muscle may not squeeze when it needs to. The sphincter muscles around the urethra may not work the way it has to and stay tight when you are trying to empty your bladder. With UAB symptoms, one may not be able to empty the bladder fully (urinary retention).
